We are currently recruiting for an Outdoor Recreation Specialist to join our Destination Development team in downtown Portland. Reporting to the Product Development Director, this role works with community leaders and tourism-related businesses and will spearhead Travel Oregon’s outdoor recreation development initiatives, support community efforts to develop new tourism experiences at the local level, and develop partnerships to leverage resources and further collaboration.

The successful candidate is an adept program manager who can effectively identify and create strategies and objectives for evolving outdoor recreation product development programs. Here’s what we expect you to bring to the table:

• A college degree (or equivalent work experience) in the field of tourism, outdoor recreation, economic/community development, urban or regional planning, and/or social science is required.

• A minimum of three years of experience in the outdoor recreation industry, ideally working with land management agencies, guides, outfitters and other industry in Oregon. Experience should include establishing, organizing and moderating coalitions or workgroups to develop common goals and creating action strategies for common objectives.

• A minimum of five years of experience in facilitating community meetings, strategic planning and/or project management. Experience working in rural communities and/or in the tourism industry is highly desired.

• Flexibility to respond and change, as needed, to meet the requirements of stakeholders and local communities. A collaborative work style is essential.

• Working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet and email computer functions. Familiarity with web development, project management and file sharing programs such as Word Press, Basecamp and Dropbox and CRM tools such as Salesforce preferred.

• An unfettered love of Oregon, its people and its places.
