Sourcing Specialist / NPI Buyer

The Sourcing Specialist is responsible for the transitioning of products from development to production. He/She provides procurement and project management support to cross-functional new product development teams, working as liaison between the NPD team, implementation engineering, global sourcing offices and suppliers. He/She negotiates and places new parts with suppliers in alignment with sourcing strategies, cost, quality and delivery objectives. He/She completes initial new product related purchasing orders and reports, and maintains files ensuring a smooth transition to replenishment buying team. He/She maintains supplier relationships, supporting supplier development and issue management as required by replenishment buying team.

DUTIES

1) Actively participate on new product development teams to review product concepts for cost, supplier implementation schedule and suitability to the current supply base

2) Works closely with marketing and engineering, develop a strategic supply base for new products where none currently exists

3) Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of all purchasing related functions.
a. Orders, checks, and expedites purchases of parts and materials. Ensures that parts arrive as scheduled, with appropriate lead times.
b. Researches and locates vendors. Investigates and analyzes the best sources of parts. Obtains comparative prices on a regular basis to ensure the best possible prices. Maintains current cost data for all purchased items.
c. Supports and drives the execution of global commodity strategies relative to cost reductions, Supplier Sourcing and Supplier Rationalization for assigned commodities.
d. Ensures that supplies and materials ordered meet established quality standards.
e. Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
f. Completes and maintains all records including purchase requisitions, purchase orders, receiving reports, and related purchasing paperwork. Maintains purchasing files.

4) Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional business relations with vendors.
a. Obtains and conveys information courteously and promptly.
b. Maintains and projects the Company’s professional reputation
c. Travels to suppliers on a regular basis to review business results and ensure smooth operations

5) Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining good communication, coordination, and working relations with Gerber personnel and management.
a. Interfaces with Research and Development, Sales, Supply Chain and Quality Assurance on new products and parts.
b. Keeps departments advised of key changes of schedule in materials due.
c. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Provides suggestions for improved policies and procedures

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: BA in Supply Chain or related field preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of vendor sources, products, and purchasing procedures.
Understanding of production processes.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5-7 years of previous experience in a purchasing our sourcing supporting a manufacturing environment preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Professional communication skills. Mathematics and analysis skills. MS Office proficiency.

TRAVEL: Ability to travel domestically and internationally 15-20% of the time
