Outdoor Project and Base Camp to host second annual summer solstice block party

PORTLAND, OREGON (June 10, 2015) – Local startup Outdoor Project and Base Camp Brewing Company, a Portland craft beer maker, announced today they will be hosting their second annual Summer Solstice Block Party together on Saturday, June 27.

The block party is free to attend and open to all ages. Beginning at 2 p.m., the streets in front of Base Camp Brewing Co will be closed to traffic, and tables, tents, and a stage will be set up. Attendees can enjoy live music from Portland bands Ezra Bell Band and the Jackalope Saints, craft beers from Base Camp and a collabobrew with Buoy Beer Company, and food from local food trucks KOi Fusion, Pacific Pie Company, wood fired pizza and more. A website for the event – buyessayshere.org – has details on the event, music, sponsors and social media promotions.

The event will offer a chance for patrons to talk outdoor inspiration, get geared up, and connect with an amazing slate of local outdoor companies. The list includes local retailers Next Adventure, U.S. Outdoor Store, Evo, and The Mountain Shop. Outdoor brands Keen, prAna, Deviation, Arc’teryx, NW Alpine, The North Face, Montbell and Territory Run Co will be sharing their latest gear and apparel. Attendees can check out Portland’s finest local-made products at MadeHerePDX, Plywerk and Portland’s best photography store, Pro Photo Supply. Portland Rock Gym, The Circuit, Rare Earth Adventures, and Evolution Healthcare and Fitness will also have tents at the event, as will The Mazamas, The Nature Conservancy, Adventures Without Limits, and Oregon Wild.

Kat Dierickx of Outdoor Project noted, “We hope to see a lot of people at the event, whether they stop by for a beer or stay for the whole day. There’s no better way to get excited about summer in Portland than planning over beers with friends and connecting with all the amazing experts who work in the outdoor industry here in town.”

Since the event is taking place on the longest day of the year, this solstice celebration will last long into the night and give attendees plenty of time to sample Base Camp’s beers.

“Base Camp’s beer is made for adventure, and as we learned last year, throwing a huge party with Outdoor Project and our local outdoor-company sponsors is a great way to share our love of adventure with our customers,” says Morgan Tashea, who runs events at Base Camp Brewing.

To build excitement for the event, Base Camp and Outdoor Project have simultaneously launched a photo contest using Instagram and Facebook – www.facebook.com/events/1077655195583259. Contestants can enter photos using the #SummerSolsticePDX hashtag and have a chance to get their photos featured behind the bar in Base Camp’s Taproom. Winners will also receive a complimentary beer on Outdoor Project at the block party and 50% off a Kodak print up to 8”x12” from Pro Photo Supply.

Jared Kennedy, COO at Outdoor Project concluded, “Last year’s party was such a blast and so many people came we had to do it again. Adding the photo contest and including all of Portland’s best outdoor brands is such a great opportunity for our outdoor-minded city to find new places to explore and new friends to do it with.”
