Position Overview:

This position is the category expert for the Bike Category, understanding consumer needs, customer requirements and the competitive landscape. This position establishes short-term and long-term product strategies to achieve net sales, net margin, SKU productivity for these categories. The position develops and implements long-term strategies to ensure brand vision and corporate objectives are met. The product categories managed include Bike and related accessories.

The Product Manager leads and facilitates various cross-functional organizational teams, including participation from the Marketing, Product Development, Supply Chain, Sales & Service, Finance and Supply Chain departments. Other key aspects of this position contribute to achieving and sustaining the Yakima Strategic Business Plan and Initiatives, global competitive advantage, and profitable market growth strategy.

Here’s what you’ll be accountable for:
• Develop and implement near-term and long-term category strategy to achieve quality, sales, margin, SKU productivity, market share and P&L for the assigned categories
• Closely manage total cost productivity (TCP) and price margin realization (PMR) for all SKUs within Bike
• Develop, facilitate, and implement product business plans for current categories to achieve strategic business goals
• Contribute to Yakima’s position as the “Category Expert” in the minds of the customer and consumer
• Provide “Go to Market” management cross-functional team focus related to the Product Development Process
• Deliver “best in market” and “first to market” products that reflect the individual brand attributes and keep the portfolio in balance
• Participate in the consumer solution process (CSP) and ongoing market research to discover un-met needs in the marketplace and categories of responsibility
• Own product delivery from inception to the retail floor including product, packaging, instructions, and merchandising

Specifics Include:
• Contribute in the development of cohesive short- and long-term product plans for the assigned categories to support the company’s strategic initiatives with a constant flow of breakthrough new products, feature innovations, appropriate feature migration, line extensions/SMUs, and cost reduction achievements
• Develop and implement new product business cases, including costing, pricing, positioning, sales forecasting, replacement versus incremental sales analysis, and net present value
• Recommend and participate in, with the category team, consumer and customer research for each new product program
• Work closely with Product Development through the critical stages of new product development to insure that new products meet Yakima’s fit standards of safety, quality, durability and ease-of-use
• Monitor and participate in the product development system to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery of all product programs
• Serve as the product category expert, understanding customer needs and the competitive environment, and communicating both to the Marketing and Product Development departments regularly
• Lead and organize the user testing process, including consumer concept validation, beta users testing, long term user testing, reporting of findings, and incorporation of learnings into product features, instructions, and marketing messaging
• Lead product instruction development and coordinate with instruction developer to deliver a good consumer experience and to ensure safe and proper product use
• Manage Product category life cycles developing and recommending appropriate changes and initiatives to sustain profitability company growth
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of customer and consumer needs through regular communications to gain general and product specific consumer and dealer feedback, including review of sales, warranty and customer service information; communicating findings to appropriate organizational teams
• Provide competitive analysis by acquiring intimate knowledge of competitive environment and developments in the industry, channels, and categories; communicating findings to appropriate organizational teams
• Participate in the Quality and Warranty process
• Participate in demand planning and product availability forecasting; influence the marketing mix for new products
• Participate in the development of product marketing messages for consumer and dealer communications
• Participate in product presentations with executives, sales teams, customers, and training of internal employees and external customers
• Adhere to required health and safety regulations and practices.
• Carry out in an effective manner other duties, responsibilities, and projects as may be assigned

What you Bring:
• BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university in Marketing, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering Management or related field
• MBA or MS/MA in related field preferred
• Advanced level with P.C.’s: Microsoft Office Suite; Outlook; PowerPoint
• 5+ years’ experience in completing and managing projects with minimal oversight and against aggressive timelines
• 5+ years of experience in consumer products management and hard goods manufacturing
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent leadership and management skills
• Ability to cooperatively interact and communicate well with inter-departmental personnel
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, accept new ideas and input positively, and be open to new work approaches and processes
• 3+ years Business experience in consumer products (durables preferred) with working knowledge of independent specialty retailers, big-box retailers, regional chains and regional and national mass merchants preferred
• Bring an energetic combination of creativity, proven product and people management skills, strong business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit to a successful and dynamic business that combines a branded and proprietary product offering, along with energy and passion for outdoor sporting products
• Capable of managing multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
• Demonstrate command of key business trends and market conditions through market research, industry literature, metrics, coordination with customer interfacing teams, and personal interaction with key customers
• Demonstrated strategic approach to share and revenue growth and business development in a strong brand franchise.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to solve problems involving complex issues
• Unquestionable high ethics, team work skills, problem solving capabilities, and ability to effectively build and maintain internal and external relationships
• Ability to cooperatively interact and communicate well with inter-departmental personnel

Work Environment:
Work takes place in an office setting. This job may require working more than 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours a week. It requires the ability to sit, stand and work at a computer for extended periods of time and communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer. This position requires the ability to lift, push, and carry up to 75lbs. Must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally via commercial carrier. Travel as required: approximately 10% of time domestic and 5% international.
